    Measure your portfolio's currency exposure

Break a portfolio down by underlying currency and estimate the impact of a move in each exchange rate on its home-currency value.

How much of my portfolio depends on foreign exchange rates?

Currency exposure groups holdings by the currency of their underlying assets, not their listing. A 10% move in a currency changes portfolio value by roughly 10% × that currency's weight, unless hedged.

    Method

    • — Assign each holding a currency from listing and, for funds, underlying allocation.
    • — Exposure weight = value in currency ÷ total home-currency value.
    • — Sensitivity = weight × assumed FX move, summed across currencies.

    Limits

Revenue-based exposure of multinationals is not modelled; fund look-through depends on published holdings.

    Questions

Does a US-listed ADR have currency risk?
Yes — it trades in dollars but its value tracks the home-market share, so it carries that currency's exposure.
